220509 Water is Flowing

Greenhouse:

The Insulated Metal Panels have been completed and the installation of the trim has begun. These are the green thin sheets of steel run on the outside edge of the otherwise beige building and protect the seams of the IMP panels and fasteners, preventing the elements from getting in. They also give a two-tone style, enhancing the visual palatability of the building.

Cattle:

Nutrient Farm just acquired 25 more cattle. The acquisition, along with the birthing we’ve had, has grown the herd quite a bit. This is what we need in order to sustain the volume required for a commercial product. Our goal is to produce enough high-quality beef to satisfy the growing needs of the local community as well as a high-end restaurant. People are waking up and demanding clean food. Vote with your dollars and tell grocers where they can stick industrial beef.

Chicken Coops:

The coops’ construction has finally started. In the pictures, you can see that the coops will rest upon a heavy and robust steel chassis with beefy, o-road tires. On this chassis will rest a steel C-channel / I-Beam platform, to which the coop will be secured. The dimensions of these buildings will be 12’x20’, so they are able to house just over 200 chickens! The solar power systems have also been ordered. Each coop will receive ve (5) solar panels, an inverter, lithium-ion battery and a solar-thermal collector. The specs will be detailed in a future newsletter when the products begin to be installed.

Nursery:

Nursery upgrades are still underway. The stone pavers have begun to be installed. They will provide a safe, anti-fatigue surface for farmers to maneuver in between the crop rows. The overall design will eliminate dead-ends and bottlenecks and allow easy access around the building for people and carts.

Farm Storage:

This agricultural storage building is still being engineered. Much of the architectural design work has been done though, so we are now able to proceed with starting other elements of the design process. Structural engineering has begun along with a micro-pyle system design, which will minimize the chance of any foundation settling over the life of the building. We have also begun MEP engineering for both the initial and ultimate phases.

Livestock Barn:

The Livestock Barn, which was constructed in the Fall of 2020, is receiving a major upgrade. The building will receive 81 solar panels, 2 inverters, 6 batteries, a surveillance system and a network connection. The East Pasture will now be monitored to look after the safety of our employees and livestock. This will also allow the ranch team to respond faster to events such as new births or threats from wildlife predators.
